On the Record

What experiences do you have that make you a good candidate for office?

I have 4 years experience as an Elburn Village Trustee. I also have a business background in manufacturing and Health Care. My past positions include Plant Manager, General Manager and Business Manager. I started out on the shop floor as a union metal spinner, learned my trade and moved up into management. So my work experience straddles blue collar to executive management. I am also a retired Master Chief Petty Officer from the USNR. Only .5% of all armed forces can be promoted to this pay grade.

What are your top three priorities if elected?

1. Elburn Station - I have spent almost 4 years working on a sound annexation agreement that will not burden the Village. I want to finish this work and see the Anderson Road bridge built and a successful new development. 2. Continue work on Village Finance policies - we have done a lot of work on budget cutting and now need to focus on smart investment policies. 3. Economic Growth - Elburn needs to reignite the economic development effort we had before the economy turned. Making Elburn business friendly and actively marketing Elburn are part of this.

Would you support freezing your taxing district’s levy until housing prices rebound? Why or why not?

Yes, but we actually have received less money each year from property taxes. The board has asked for a levy each year based on allowed needs and never received what we ask for and, the Village portion of property tax has gone down each year. So a freeze is more political than practical.

What one decision by the village board do you most disagree with and why?

I was the only Board member to vote no on the preliminary plan for Elburn Station. I voted no because my concerns around density, impact to Elburn taxpayers and too many potential rental units.

What was the biggest accomplishment of the board in the past year?

Remaining within our proposed budget and not dipping into our reserves.

Why should voters elect you to office?

I have a proven track record of making tough and informed decisions. In my first term as Chair of the Finance Committee we balanced the budget, held the line on taxes and put sound budget policies into place. We agreed to the aggregate electric supply program which has saved residents over $100K. We have had a small budget surplus every year and continue to make hard decisions that allow us to remain under budget. This experience coupled with my business background and education will allow me to successfully serve the residents of Elburn.
