Why are you running for a position on the Kane County Board?

I have lived here for nearly 40 years. My wife and I raised our family and now enjoy our 4 grandchildren who also live here. This is my opportunity to help Kane County continue to be a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.

What would your top three priorities be as a board member?

To continue to operate within our means as we have done during my time on the board. To seek out and implement long-term strategies like our 2040 plan to make sure we are able to meet the challenges ahead as we continue to grow. To integrate all of our resources and services, particularly in Public Safety, with the effective use of cutting edge technology.

How would you differentiate yourself from your opponent?

In the time that I have served on the board I have had the pleasure of working with hundreds of people from the public, from other agencies, and from staff for the county. It has been a tremendous learning experience that has prepared me for participating in the many and diverse projects undertaken by the County.

Explain an accomplishment of yours and how it would – or does – relate to your being an effective board member.

While Chaiman of the Human Services Committee we successfully brought changes to our Health Insurance Program that has and will continue to save millions of dollars. That same committee also helped institute the most comprehesive Ethics Ordinance we have had to date.

What is the greatest challenge facing your district, and what you have you done – to date – to help solve it?

Meeting transportation needs while maintaining the mix of development and open space that make District 14 the desirable location that it is will be a challenge. The 2040 plan, which I support, brings together County Health, Development, and Transportation Departments to help meet those challenges.

Why are you the best candidate for this position?

I fully embrace the idea of keeping an open mind to the introduction of new methods and perspectives when approaching County issues. I also believe this will be a time of transition with a new Chairman and many new board members. Bringing 8 years of experience, leadership responsibilities, and consensus building to the board will best serve the people of Kane County.
