What experiences do you have that make you a good candidate for office?
I have gained fiscal experience from running my own business and operating a farm in the Sugar Grove community for over 30 years. In addition, I have 13 years of work experience at Waubonsee Community College starting as a second shift part time custodian, moving to full time first shift custodian and then to a full time maintenance mechanic position which exposed me to each department and each of their functions on 3 out of 4 of the campuses.
What are your top three priorities if elected?
My top three priorities are: • increase operating efficiency of WCC in order to help keep taxes at a minimum • collaborate with other board members, administrators, local and state agencies and community members to create more employment opportunities for students • enhance and facilitate communication between board members and the community
Would you support freezing your taxing district’s levy until housing prices rebound? Why or why not?
Yes I support freezing my taxing district’s levy. The tax burden on the people living in the counties with an unemployment rate near 10% is high enough. It may be possible for WCC to become more efficient with their current resources.
What one decision by the school board do you most disagree with and why?
No comment at this time.
What was the biggest accomplishment of the board in the past year?
No comment at this time.
Why should voters elect you to office?
As a farmer involved in agribusiness I understand fiscal responsibility. In addition, my work experience at WCC has given me an insider’s perspective on the day to day operations of the college. I will do my utmost to be the students, community, support staff, faculty and administrators’ voices at the board meetings and work toward more transparency.
