I am running because I believe I have the combination of skills, experience, and temperament that is needed to be effective as a county board member.
I’m running on three principals: Accountability, Efficiency, and Innovation.
My top priorities would be to freeze the tax levy, reduce the tax burden on county residents, be readily accessible to all residents and promote openness in county government.
My experience with computer systems and software would be one area where I can differentiate myself. One of the most important issues the board will face in the coming year is a proposed multi-million dollar computer system. My background uniquely qualifies me to significantly contribute in this area. Knowledge, that could potentially save taxpayers millions of dollars.
One that comes to mind is when I was called in to resolve an issue between our customer and a vendor. My skills in evaluating the situation, producing a viable solution, and reestablishing harmony between our customer and the vendor, are skills that will serve me well on the board.
As I walk and meet people, many tell me that they are concerned about sinking property values and rising tax bills. Freezing, or better yet reducing property taxes should be a priority. County government needs to become more efficient during these challenging economic times.
At the risk of being redundant, I have the combination of skills, experience, and temperament that is needed to be effective as a county board member.
I’m running on three principals: Accountability, Efficiency, and Innovation.
I grew up around politics and I currently serve as a precinct committeemen. I want to make our community a better place now and for the next generation. My experience from working at the Kane County Clerk’s office and in several positions at the city of Aurora have given me a good foundation to serve as a Kane County Board Member. I feel that I can help address issues that are important to the residents of the district and Kane County.
Hold the line on taxes.
Improve pedestrians safety with more sidewalks and complete streets.
Focus on quality of life issues and the environment.
I have learned the importance of public service from my mother Judy Tooley, who served as a township trustee and Kane County board member for 18 years. I have been in the trenches as a volunteer in politics my entire life. My family roots go back 5 generations in this community. I am very familiar with this district since I have never lived anywhere else. Between working for the county and the city I gained 14 years of work experience in local government. At the county I worked in Voter Registration, issued marriage licenses, birth and death records, and served as U.S. Passport liaison. At the city of Aurora I held various positions during the 8 years of my employment. They included, working in the City Clerk’s office, Community Development Administration, and Building and Inspections. In addition I served as secretary to various boards such as the Riverwalk Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, and the Zoning Board of Appeals. These experiences have given me a good understanding of how government works.
My accomplishment is my Rolodex. What I mean by that is that while growing up around politics I have helped many elected officials. I have worked on many campaigns over the years. I know many people at different levels of government that will enable me to do a better job as a Kane County board member. I am familiar with the services that Kane County provides and who to go to to help get the job done. Many people don’t know where to go for help or even where to begin. I feel I can help them with this because of the people I know and my experience.
Walking the district has given me a better understanding of some of the needs and one of them is the impact of home foreclosures in our neighborhoods. Many homes that are foreclosed and abandoned are a huge eye soar in the neighborhoods. The lack of property maintenance needs to be addressed to stabilize our neighborhoods and increase the quality of life. While I have not been involved in addressing this issue, I would like the opportunity to try to address this problem at the county board level.
In all of the positions that I have held I have enjoyed the customer service aspect of them all. My passion for customer service and helping people will help me to be an effective county board member.
