I am a Title I Reading Specialist at Mooseheart employed by the Batavia Public Schools. This is a role that requires leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. It is imperative that I have knowledge about library materials and activities. I was selected as the interim Batavia Library Trustee in December of 2011 and will fill that position until after the election in April of 2013. During my time as Trustee, I participated in Board and Committee Meetings, special events related to the library, and fulfilled all the regular duties of a Trustee. I am a mother with three children in the library district and we visit the library and participate in events on a regular basis. I am very passionate about reading and learning. It is very important to me that the library remains a strong cornerstone of Batavia life through its physical presence and the materials and services it provides.

I have served on the Board of Trustees of the Batavia Public Library District for eight years, and I am proud of the way our organization has managed its resources wisely and remained on solid financial footing. For the past two years, I have served as the Board’s President. Furthermore, I have more than a decade of work experience in the public sector, and have strong relationships with most of the area’s elected officials.

First, I have utilized the services of a local library since childhood when my mother began reading library books to me and taking me to story-telling programs. I continued to utilize library services throughout my youthful school years, through college and again as an adult returning to school. Today, I still enjoy utilizing our library’s services and educational and entertaining programs. Secondly, I feel that my years of experience in the business world as a consultant and salesperson in the telecommunications field and as a business analyst in information technology have provided me with skills, such as requirements gathering, cost justification, and contract negotiation, that will be an asset on the board as it makes financial decisions.

I’m a hard worker and I will put my experience as an educator, a parent, a grandparent, and a lover of books into working with the board to maintain the high quality of our library.
